Shannon Brewery St Patrick's Day 5K (Number 3 in the Hole!)
3/11/17 - Shannon Brewery St. Patrick's Day 5K / Keller, TX (3 of 12)
Number 3 in my 5K series was accomplished on Saturday at a place I hadn't ever thought about doing a 5K at... a micro-brewery! Yes - Shannon Brewing Company put on their 3rd annual St. Patrick's Day 5K on Saturday, beginning their early celebration of St. Patty's Day.
Probably one of the biggest differences that I saw in this race than most I've participated in was the award for all of us that completed the race. Of course, the race packet included the normal T-Shirt and race bib, but the finisher's received the option for the treat of pancakes, a beer mug, and 2 fresh Shannon Brewed beers from the tap to your brand new mug. 9am and people running for fresh beer - GOOD TIMES!
In what was one of the most uncomfortable 5K courses I've run in a long time (mainly because of the hilly-ness of it), I was encouraged to see that my pitiful time at the Cowtown must have had something to do with my illness, as I was able to finish this 5K almost 4 minutes faster than the 2/25 one. I even did dead-lifts on Friday, and was able to push myself through my goal for the race.
Then again, maybe it was the early morning smell of that lovely, freshly made beer? :)
I have to say, it was great to get up and do the run this morning to support Shannon Brewery, as they have been one of my biggest supporters of my music, having me play there at least monthly, sometimes several times a month. Heck, I played there last night! Wonderful job on the 5K guys!
