Shooting Star (Rehearsal) - Chip & Laury
2013 was a very wild year. As if getting married, moving into a new place, working full time, playing shows and keeping track with my dad and his health issues weren't enough, I got the big idea to take another leap, and write and record a new EP with my wife, Laury.
I wanted this EP to be something very different than anything I'd done before, and I figured having a co-writer on it would help do the trick. I contacted Mike Garrigan, a songwriter who's work I've admired for years, and spoke with him about the possibility of co-writing a few songs with me for this EP. I was thrilled to no end when he agreed.
I sent him many ideas, he worked on them, and sent many back my way. One of the first ones we completed was the track 'Shooting Star'. The song really resonated with Laury and I both, and became one of our favorites quickly.
One night, soon after Laury and I got it, we sat down and worked on it a while. After feeling pretty good with the final result, we filmed our work to send back to Mike G for possibly some more polishing before hitting the studio to record a final version. The video you see here is that rehearsal.
This is one of those songs that had significant meaning for me at the time, focused primarily on my relationship and where my heart was at the time. Little did I know that this song would gain even more meaning as the weeks and years barreled on with the passing of my father and the birth of my son.
